About Mia

I knew I wanted to be a curly haired specialist from day 1 of hair dressing school almost 20 years ago. I wanted a niche and to only work on curls. I've been studying curls my entire career. I graduated from Ricci's Academy of Hair Design which is now called Toni & Guy Hair Dressing Academy in Newtown, CT. From there I went on to pursue my curly hair training at the Matrix Academy in NYC. After numerous classes and research I decided to get certified as a curl specialist. I trained at Christo 5th Avenue in NYC alongside the King of Curls, Christo! I am certified in the Diametrix cutting technique that he invented. I have taken all of my years of continuing education classes on curls and made how I cut curly hair my own as well. I don't do the same thing to every head of curls. Some curls I cut dry, some I cut wet and on most, I do a little of both. I do whatever I need to do to make your curls look as great as they can be! I am passionate about curls, about teaching you how to care for your curls and suggesting the right products for your specific curl pattern. I am constantly training, learning and growing when I 'm not behind the chair. The health of your hair is ALWAYS my number one concern. It's that in addition to a great cut, the right product and the right at home styling techniques that makes curly hair the best it can be! 

Depending on your curl texture and length I may start your cut dry then wet or vice versa. Please allow 2.5-3 hours for this initial appointment. I will do a thorough consultation, your personalized curly cut, shampoo, deep condition or K18 treatment, style and dry fully either by diffusing or sitting you under the dryer. I may do some dry cutting after it's fully dry too if need be.

To help you get the best curly cut for your curls and also the best overall experience, please do the following.

*Please arrive with your hair in a freshly styled state that accurately represents how you usually style it.

*Please wash (with clarifying shampoo if you have a lot of product build up), style, and fully dry your hair within 24 hours of your appointment so that I can give you the best and most accurate cut for your specific curls. It's very important for me to see how you do your own hair and how your curls fall. I need to have the option to start your cut dry and finish wet or vice versa.

Please do not arrive with your hair in a ponytail or bun, these will disrupt your natural curl pattern.

*If you are also receiving color, please just follow the above guidelines so I have the option to cut first if I decide to.
